Street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has called out controversial activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), accusing him of manipulating Nigerians using the death of late singer Mohbad.
In a video shared via social media, Portable criticized VeryDarkMan for allegedly diverting the Justice for Mohbad campaign and turning it into a personal battle, particularly targeting actress Iyabo Ojo, one of the earliest advocates for justice after Mohbad’s controversial death in September 2023.
“VeryDarkMan, you came out deceiving Nigerians that you want justice for Mohbad. You’re a manipulator,” Portable said in the video.
“Now, you’re dragging Iyabo Ojo. What’s really her offense? You claimed you want justice for Mohbad, so why are you now going against Mohbad? Leave him and let him rest in peace.”
“You Made a U-Turn” – Portable to VDM
The Zazuu Zeh crooner further accused VDM of switching narratives, noting that the activist initially alleged that Mohbad’s death was not natural, only to later reverse his stance.
“You are the one who first alleged that Mohbad was killed by certain people, and you’re now making a U-turn,” he said.
“Are you the one who will tell Nigerians who is good or not? We know the people who bullied Mohbad. Stop deceiving Nigerians.”
Background
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died under controversial circumstances in 2023, triggering widespread outrage and demands for justice. Activists, celebrities, and fans launched the #JusticeForMohbad movement, calling for thorough investigations into the alleged bullying and abuse he suffered prior to his death.
While VeryDarkMan initially gained support for his vocal stance on the matter, his recent criticisms of Iyabo Ojo and other early supporters of the campaign have drawn backlash, with many—including Portable—accusing him of derailing the cause.
